Background
There are a number of library and information science journals published in and outside the Netherlands. Professionals in the library, information and knowledge sector often publish articles in these journals. There is even a certain publishing tradition, particularly in the library sector, the origin of which may well lie in the fact that library personnel in particular often had scientific appointments in the past. As the authors are not officially part of a research group, these publications often remain unaccounted for in an institute's inventory of scientific publications. There are a number of parties interested in these publications being freely available and archived.
- The professionals.
Even here, far from all institutes can afford to subscribe to all the journals. This certainly applies to those institutes where the library consists of only a small unit (sometimes only a single individual). It is difficult for these personnel to keep abreast of developments in their specialist field. That is why the professional association – the Netherlands Association of Professionals (NVB) in the library, information and knowledge sector – is a stakeholder. - University research groups working in the field of library and information science.
They have an interest in a repository so that they know where all of the publications can be found in their specialist fields. For this reason, the Media Studies Department (Archive and Information Science Group) of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Amsterdam is involved in this project. - Vocational courses on library and information science.
Although a publication medium for both teachers and students, intensive use is also made of publications by others in their specialist field. That is why the Institute of Media and Information Management (MIM) of the Hogeschool Amsterdam is involved in this project.
